Objectives: This study aimed to identify the factors affecting the stage of change in exercise behavior among local government officials by using the transtheoretical model.
Methods: Data from a total of 202 subjects were collected from October 14 to October 20, 2020, using structural questionnaires. The stage of change in exercise behavior, process of change, balance of decision-making, and self-efficacy were investigated. Ordered logistic regression analysis were used to identify the factors influencing the stage of change in exercise behavior.
Results: The higher the recognition of the decision balance loss in cases where the working hours per week were >52 h compared to <40 h, the lower the stage of change in exercise behavior. In contrast, the higher the self-efficacy in case of obesity or normal weight compared to underweight, the higher the stage of change in exercise behavior.
Conclusion: To improve the stage of change in exercise behavior of local government officials, it is necessary to lower the recognition of losses by increasing self-efficacy and develop exercise programs for local officials with over 52 working hours per week.
